About the position

The 2nd Shift Sort Controller at Gordon Food Service is responsible for monitoring the warehouse case flow through the sortation system. This role ensures proper batch order, accurate scanning and sorting of cases, and minimizes downtime for the production team. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with multiple departments to address any system and production issues promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing system productivity to minimize downtime and ensure maximum sorting of cases to ship lanes.
  • Monitoring merge screens to ensure the system is running efficiently and accurately.
  • Using the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to track pending, pre-sorted, and sorted statuses.
  • Conducting walkthroughs of the system before lunch and at the end of the day to ensure no cases are left in the system.
  • Maximizing the number of cases sorted and ensuring labels are scanned correctly by the system.
  • Communicating with multiple departments through proper radio communication regarding system and production issues.
  • Following all Lockout/Tagout and Arc-flash safety procedures at all times.
  • Maintaining and saving the merge log properly for each shift.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Lockout/Tagout training, Arc-flash training, and PIV certification must be completed upon hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Warehouse experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • Computer acumen is required.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Proficient with Sort Control system including conveyors, photoeyes, and sorters is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once is required.
  • Must be able to work holidays as required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to perceive auditory warning signals used in warehouse operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures in warehouse environments.
