About the position

The Quality Department at Spangler Candy Company is seeking a full-time Quality Assurance professional responsible for maintaining product quality and compliance with food safety standards. This role involves auditing product weights, ensuring proper labeling, monitoring production methods, and maintaining quality records to support the organization's commitment to food safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains weights and standards by auditing product/shipping weights, kitchen/line scales, etc.
  • Assures that the UPC code is correct and in the appropriate location on film, bags, boxes, etc.
  • Assures reclaim quality by sampling, monitoring tank volume, and testing the pH and Brix.
  • Monitors production methods for code dating, pallet patterns, case packing, etc.
  • Monitors the general appearance of all products including color, striping, defects, etc.
  • Assures all item form specifications are correct and current.
  • Monitors metal detectors for proper operation.
  • Inspects sticks penetration and pop fill.
  • Fills out a hold ticket if the product is faulty.
  • Maintains daily notepad of production quality shift occurrences.
  • Initiates and maintains required quality/defect records.
  • Supports the organization's commitment to ensure that food safety and quality plans conform to all regulatory requirements.
  • Reports any problems or potential problems observed concerning food safety and quality to Supervision immediately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Product Compliance Manager and Laboratory/Tech Services Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and record/report information.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from visual and/or physical inspection of assigned tasks.
  • Good vision, color vision, hearing, and speaking ability.
  • Finger dexterity and physical capability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, and lift/carry up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Minimum of High School education with knowledge of general production quality procedures.
