About the position
The 2nd Year Student Pharmacist position at M Health Fairview is designed for pharmacy students to gain practical experience in an oncology pharmacy setting. Interns will work closely with registered pharmacists, participating in direct patient care, medication therapy management, and compounding medications. This casual internship allows for flexible hours, typically around ten hours a week, and provides opportunities for mentorship and involvement in process improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with compounding and distribution of pharmaceuticals and IV solutions as ordered by qualified prescribers.
- Participate in team meetings and discussions with clinical pharmacy specialists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and technicians.
- Monitor oral chemotherapy patients, including in-person counseling and telemedicine.
- Counsel patients in the infusion area about take-home medications, including new anti-nausea medications or other supportive care medications.
- Engage in project management, including the possibility of IRB approved studies.
- Receive didactic teaching primarily over the summer to expand knowledge base.
Requirements
- Acceptance or enrollment in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
- Registered Technician with Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and/or Registered Intern with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (required prior to start date).
