About the position

As a R D Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team of engineers and scientists at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in Albuquerque, NM. This position focuses on the development of cutting-edge technologies in Pulsed Power Sciences. Your primary responsibilities will include the creation and management of 3D models, detailed drawings, layouts, and illustrations that adhere to engineering principles and processes. You will work collaboratively with engineering and design partners to ensure that all designs meet fit, form, and function requirements. This role requires a strong passion for mechanical design and a commitment to excellence in configuration management. In this position, you will be tasked with creating 3D models and drawings for next-generation accelerators, such as Z-Next (NGPPF). You will partner closely with engineers and scientists to develop innovative designs and collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, and suppliers to discuss design specifications, schedules, manufacturing processes, and material selections. It is essential to ensure that all contractual agreements are understood and achievable. Additionally, you will manage documentation in a collaborative engineering environment, utilizing product data management tools along with engineering authorization and approval processes and procedures. This is a contract position with a duration of over three years, and it requires an active DOE "Q" Security Clearance. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, along with three or more years of relevant experience in mechanical product design, including the creation of 3D solid models and mechanical drawings. Experience with PTC/CREO and PDMLink (Windchill) is essential, as is proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in creating mechanical product design definition to include 3D solid models and mechanical drawings.
  • Experienced in PTC/CREO and PDMLink (Windchill).
  • Experienced in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Experience with foundational engineering principles related to design, manufacturing, and configuration management.
  • Proven record of demonstrating initiative and getting results.
  • Experience directing and overseeing fabrication of hardware.
