About the position

As a Drafter at ENTEK, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of products by collaborating closely with architects and engineers. Your primary responsibilities will include gathering product and structural requirements, calculating dimensions, and creating detailed drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software. You will ensure that all technical plans are accurate and comply with relevant regulations and quality standards. This position requires a strong understanding of drafting principles and the ability to produce drawings that will be utilized in our fabrication shop to manufacture equipment. In this role, you will review plans, specifications, and other documentation provided by engineers, including verbal instructions and rough sketches. You will work collaboratively with engineers to clarify any missing requirements and prepare rough designs and drawings using CAD software. Your ability to revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes will be essential, as will your capacity to provide guidance on existing 3D designs. You will also be responsible for creating documentation for new and revised 3D concepts, ensuring that all final designs comply with established guidelines and quality standards. The working environment is dynamic, requiring frequent communication and collaboration with team members. You will manage drawing and design libraries, create informative resources to accompany final drawings, and participate in team meetings to discuss project progress and challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drafting, excellent math skills, and the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and other documentation from the engineers, including verbal instructions and rough sketches.
  • Work with engineers to gather any missing requirements and to clarify information.
  • Prepare rough designs and drawings using CAD software.
  • Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes.
  • Offer guidance and recommendations for existing 3D designs.
  • Provide drawing packages that will be usable in our fabrication facilities.
  • Create documentation for new and revised 3D concepts.
  • Review drafts prior to submitting to engineers, and revise and update drawings based on engineer feedback.
  • Finalize drawings, ensuring final designs comply with guidelines and quality standards.
  • Create/compile informative resources to pair with final drawings, such as notes, design calculations, and other documents e.g. bill of materials, list of design parameters for future reference.
  • Manage drawing and design libraries and other databases.
  • Work with engineers to create and check standard blocks for new components and package styles so they can be used on standard products.
  • Collaborate with others during team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in drafting, computer aided drafting and design, engineering, or a related field; OR certificate in computer aided drafting and design, engineering, drafting or a related field and one (1) year of experience working as a 3D modeler/drafter; OR two (2) years of experience working as a 3D modeler/drafter.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software and associated tools.
  • GD&T knowledge and experience.
  • Proficient with standard office software, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable about standard drafting/modeling practices and procedures.
  • Ability to generate layout drawings from verbal instructions, sketches, and specifications.
  • Ability to create new ideas and improve upon existing ones.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule, and manage time.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to then develop reasonable solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Current, valid certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).
  • Experience using Inventor/AutoCAD software to produce workable drawings, designs, and/or models.
