About the position

Great Lakes Stair and Steel is seeking both experienced and entry-level candidates for the position of 3D Modeler or Draftsman. This full-time role offers opportunities for overtime and is based at our facility located at 10130 Virginia Avenue, Chicago Ridge, IL. The business operates from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Fridays. Compensation for this position ranges from $18.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on the candidate's experience and skills, with wages paid weekly on an hourly basis. Overtime is compensated at time-and-a-half. The primary responsibilities of the 3D Modeler/Draftsman include effective communication with architects, engineers, owners, and project managers to ensure project specifications are met. The role requires maintaining organized files and ensuring timely delivery to all relevant parties. Candidates will be responsible for checking addendums and new information for any changes to their assigned work, as well as verifying contract documents, Requests for Information (RFIs), and specifications to ensure the accuracy of drawings. Additionally, the position involves writing and submitting RFIs as necessary, producing fabrication and field use drawings, and engaging in miscellaneous steel 3D modeling and detailing, primarily focused on custom fabrications such as stairs, ladders, railings, and structural steel. Candidates should possess an acute attention to detail, a strong understanding of CAD and Microsoft Office software, and the ability to read blueprints and welding symbols. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, committed to producing accurate and complete work, and have a friendly personality conducive to teamwork. A valid driver's license is required, and prior experience with Tekla or Trimble software is considered beneficial. The company offers independently supervised training during work hours, with potential for advancement and skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with Architects, Engineers, owners, and Project Managers
  • Maintaining files in an orderly fashion and ensuring they are delivered to all correct recipients
  • Checking addendums and new information for any changes to assigned work
  • Checking contract documents, RFI's, specifications, etc. to ensure drawings are accurate
  • Writing / submitting of RFI's as needed
  • Producing fabrication and field use drawings
  • Miscellaneous steel 3D modeling and detailing, primarily with stairs, ladders, railings, and structural steel.

Requirements

  • Acute attention to detail
  • Excellent understanding and ability with CAD and Microsoft Office software
  • Comprehension of and ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, etc.
