About the position

As a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) at Piedmont Christian Home, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care to our residents. Your daily responsibilities will include observing residents for any changes in their condition and promptly reporting these observations to your supervisor. You will assist residents with simple requests and ensure that their needs are met with dignity and respect. This position requires you to document and report any changes in residents' conditions accurately, as well as provide medication setup and assistance, ensuring that all medications are logged correctly and physician's orders are verified. You will also be responsible for tracking vital signs, diabetic testing, and assisting with insulin injections and ambulation as needed. In addition to direct care, you will be expected to maintain a clean and safe environment for residents. This includes changing bed linens, organizing personal belongings, and ensuring that residents have access to fresh water and ice. You will make rounds every two hours to check on assigned residents, respond to their needs promptly, and maintain established housekeeping standards within your assigned areas. Your role will also involve basic infection control techniques to prevent contamination and ensure the health and safety of both residents and staff. To succeed in this role, you must bring a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a current Nursing Assistant certification from North Carolina. You should also have First Aid and CPR certification, and be prepared to complete any additional training required for assisting with medications. This position is full-time, with shifts that may include rotating weekends and holidays, and you will be expected to work a 12-hour shift from 7 AM to 7 PM. Your ability to communicate effectively in English, maintain confidentiality, and work independently will be essential to your success as a PCA at Piedmont Christian Home.

Responsibilities

  • Observe residents for any changes in condition and report to supervisor
  • Assist residents with simple requests as needed
  • Document and report changes of condition
  • Provide medication setup and assistance
  • Log in medications from pharmacies, verify physician's orders and communicate any concerns
  • Track all medications and reorder as needed
  • Track residents' vital signs, diabetic testing, and/or insulin injection, ambulation, etc.
  • Approach residents with a warm smile, being respectful and helpful at all times
  • Provide personal care including bathing, oral care, hair care, dressing, and feeding
  • Assist in admitting residents and organizing their belongings
  • Change bed linen and maintain grooming supplies in resident rooms
  • Assist with mobility of residents as needed
  • Supply residents with fresh water and ice and encourage fluid intake
  • Make rounds of assigned residents every two hours, taking care of their needs
  • Maintain established housekeeping standards within assigned duty areas
  • Use basic infection control techniques to avoid infection
  • Maintain orderly resident rooms and remove soiled linens and trash immediately
  • Chart daily for all residents and ensure timely documentation
  • Answer phone calls to the office phones and forward to correct management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Nursing Assistant certification from N.C. State
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Completed required training for assisting with medications
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deal with new tasks without written procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to help peers and work under supervision

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in caregiving (1 year preferred)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • CNA or PCA certification within 6 months of hire
