The Psychiatric or Mental/Behavioral Health LPN is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care in the psychiatric unit of a hospital, mental health/behavioral health hospital, or in community settings. This role requires the LPN to demonstrate the ability to make clinical judgments effectively and efficiently under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the care team. The position is critical in ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and support in a psychiatric environment, which can be both challenging and rewarding. In this role, the LPN will be responsible for various tasks including the administration and ordering of medication, conducting nursing assessments, and providing direct patient care as applicable per state regulations. The LPN will also be tasked with taking medication orders, transcribing them to the Medication Administration Record (MAR), and ensuring the proper management of medications, including daily counts of stock medications and narcotics. Maintaining the Medication Room to agency standards is also a key responsibility. The LPN will perform vital sign checks, including temperatures, pulse, blood pressure, and weight, as well as blood draws and urine sample collections as needed. Accurate and timely documentation is essential, as the LPN must maintain the integrity of the clinical record and complete all required paperwork specific to the program. The role may also involve other duties as assigned, contributing to a comprehensive approach to patient care in the psychiatric setting.
