About the position

The position involves joining the Radioactive Substances Regulation Teams within the Environment Agency, focusing on ensuring compliance with Environmental Permitting Regulations. The role is crucial for protecting the environment and public health by regulating radioactive substances across designated regions in East Anglia and Hertfordshire/North London. The successful candidate will engage in inspections, audits, and incident response, contributing to a diverse and inclusive workplace that values equality and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure radioactive materials are kept and used in a secure environment.
  • Undertake inspections and audits at permitted sites, ensuring compliance and taking enforcement action when required.
  • Assess the impacts of discharges of radioactive materials into the environment to ensure the protection of the public and the environment.
  • Respond to and investigate incidents and non-compliance events, implementing suitable preventative and protective actions.
  • Make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with a good understanding of radiological and environmental issues.
  • Relevant experience in a regulatory or industrial role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to take a risk-based approach to decision making and work planning.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
