About the position

The Senior COBOL Software Engineer/Developer will work on enhancement, new development, and production support projects for a mission-critical legacy application, Vehicle Invoicing and Drafting (VI&D). This role requires a highly competent individual who can manage multiple projects under pressure while delivering high-quality results on time. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with COBOL and Agile methodologies, and will be expected to communicate effectively with business partners and team members.

Responsibilities

• Work on enhancement, new development, and production support projects for the Vehicle Invoicing and Drafting application.
• Deliver projects on time and with high quality according to defined processes.
• Handle difficult situations and business partner conversations tactfully.
• Drive the requirements gathering process with business partners.
• Participate in on-call duties on a rotational schedule.

Requirements

• 10+ years of advanced experience working on complex legacy applications.
• Expertise in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and IMS (both online and batch).
• Strong experience with IBM Utilities (file manager, IEB GENER) and ENDEVOR.
• Strict process discipline with exposure to Agile techniques.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, both verbal and written.
• Superb documentation skills.
• Strong ability to understand complex applications and their interconnections.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Agile process and Rally.
• Experience using web-based technologies with COBOL.
• Some experience with advanced technologies such as Java and SAP.
