About the position

The Manager, State & Local Public Affairs at Tallgrass Energy is a pivotal role within the Government and Public Affairs department, responsible for executing external affairs strategies. This position supports various departments by representing the company in the community and engaging with key stakeholders, including elected officials and regulatory agencies. The role requires extensive knowledge of the energy industry and strong relationships across the Western US, focusing on community outreach and advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Develop engagement strategies, approaches, and tools to achieve business objectives and minimize risk.
• Identify emerging issues early and make recommendations for advocacy plans.
• Develop strong external relationships with communities, businesses, and government entities.
• Implement strategies for local community outreach and relationship development.
• Monitor and analyze local and state government policy changes and elections.
• Share community knowledge across the organization to support project outcomes.
• Ensure effective communications with community leaders regarding company activities.
• Represent Tallgrass at community gatherings and serve as the local point of contact for stakeholders.
• Advise senior leadership on potential risks and opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of ten years of experience in the oil & gas industry.
• Ten years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or public affairs activities.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams at a senior level.
• Proven leadership outcomes in leading self, others, and organizations.
• Ability to drive positive change and manage large departmental budgets.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications.
