About the position

This posting is for a temporary Environmental Educator at Burton 4-H Center located on Tybee Island, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include a focus on coastal ecology, life science, earth science and marine science. Other responsibilities include animal care, lead staff duties, general support of overall center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting.
  • Teach subjects including coastal ecology, life science, earth science, and marine science.
  • Care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others).
  • Support overall center operations.
  • Manage groups of adults and students.

Requirements

  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong passion for education and youth development.
  • Dynamic personality with well-developed communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Customer service and hospitality/food industry experience.
  • Broad knowledge of outdoor education.
  • Experience in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K-12 grade youth.
