About the position

Make an impact in the lives of Alabama youth! This position will be housed in the Perry County Extension Office in Marion, Alabama, and will serve both Perry and Hale counties. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is the outreach organization for the land grant mission of Auburn University and Alabama A&M University. Our educational programs grow from these two land grant university campuses to serve the people of Alabama. We deliver science-based educational programs that enable people to improve their quality of life and economic well-being. Our information and programs are available online or in person in all 67 County Extension Offices and at teaching sites throughout Alabama communities. We are seeking a servant leader that has a passion for working with youth in Perry & Hale counties! As a 4-H Youth Development Coordinator (4-H YDC), this position provides the opportunity to do something new every day - our 4-H YDCs work with animals, outdoors, STEM, gardening, cooking and everything in between. Must be willing to work as part of team and serve a diverse population. Responsibilities

  • Develops leadership and engagement skills to grow and sustain the county 4-H program in five areas of excellence.
  • Diversifies program delivery by learning new programs, resources, and skills offered by Program Priority Team (PPT).
  • Stays current on demographic and socioeconomic change to include diverse voices in program prioritization and planning.
  • Provides leadership, direction, organization, and implementation of a broad-based county 4-H program.
  • Provides experiential learning opportunities for youth through teaching and mentoring.
  • Provides leadership to development of an annual county 4-H strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership to develop and implement a county 4-H annual program plan-of-work.
  • Provides leadership for county 4-H Youth Council and works cohesively with County Extension Coordinator.
  • Meets regularly with colleagues in SET to share needs assessment results and coordinate programs.
  • Provides leadership and/or assists with county, regional, state, and national events.
  • Promotes and markets Alabama 4-H and local, regional, and state programs.
  • Maintains effective communication and develops networks and partnerships with volunteers, schools, agencies, and organizations.
  • Implements and enforces all Auburn University Risk Management requirements.
  • Manages local data collection, including 4-H Online, and prepares evaluation summaries.
  • Develops a communication plan to reach 4-H members and their families.
  • Provides leadership and coordination for 4-H volunteer development.
  • Identifies, secures, and manages fiscal resources to support local and priority programs.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in a discipline directly related to one of four major program areas.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility.
  • Basic knowledge in educational technologies and their appropriate use.
  • Program marketing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and promote teamwork.
  • Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage volunteers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights, weekends, and overnight travel.
  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to act creatively, confidentially, and professionally.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple projects.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Physical demands include lifting, moving, and transporting program supplies and equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • A master's degree in a discipline directly related to one of our major program areas is highly preferred.
  • Formal and/or informal teaching experience in a relevant discipline is preferred.
