Responsibilities

• Primary responsibility is infection control.
• Maintain sterile technique.
• Perform all duties according to procedure.
• Cleans, sterilizes, packages and assembles instrument sets.
• Assist in care and handling of equipment.
• Responsible for cleaning reusable items including surgical pieces and processing through steam sterilizers, gas sterilizers, washer sterilizers, and ultrasonic if necessary.
• Responsible for waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items.
• Inspects equipment and instruments through all procedural steps for condition and operation.
• Collects soiled instruments, kits, equipment, etc. for processing.
• Responsible for daily maintenance and housekeeping duties on work stations as required.
• Assists in collection of data for Quality Assurance Programs, ongoing.
• Demonstrates planning and organization in preparation for procedures in a Central Sterile environment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of sterile technique.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge in various surgical preparation environments.
• Participates in ongoing education programs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the function and operation of equipment in a Central Sterile environment.
• Attends/completes Job Certification Program and documents all hospital mandatory in-service programs.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write and verbalize English.
• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Central Service Technician (CRCST) issued by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM).
