Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility is infection control.
- Maintain sterile technique.
- Perform all duties according to procedure.
- Cleans, sterilizes, packages and assembles instrument sets.
- Assist in care and handling of equipment.
- Responsible for cleaning reusable items including surgical pieces and processing through steam sterilizers, gas sterilizers, washer sterilizers, and ultrasonic if necessary.
- Responsible for waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items.
- Inspects equipment and instruments through all procedural steps for condition and operation.
- Collects soiled instruments, kits, equipment, etc. for processing.
- Responsible for daily maintenance and housekeeping duties on work stations as required.
- Assists in collection of data for Quality Assurance Programs, ongoing.
- Demonstrates planning and organization in preparation for procedures in a Central Sterile environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of sterile technique.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge in various surgical preparation environments.
- Participates in ongoing education programs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the function and operation of equipment in a Central Sterile environment.
- Attends/completes Job Certification Program and documents all hospital mandatory in-service programs.
Requirements
- Ability to read and write and verbalize English.
- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Central Service Technician (CRCST) issued by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM).
