About the position

The Bilingual Spanish & ELA Endorsed Teacher is responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes under the supervision of the school principal. This role involves comprehensive instructional planning, which includes providing written lesson plans and preparation aligned with the objectives of the instructional program. The teacher is expected to establish positive learning expectations for all pupils, evaluate their progress, and maintain accurate records of their achievements. In addition to instructional planning, the teacher will implement various instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology. This includes utilizing a range of instructional materials available in the school and participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques. The teacher will also create bulletin boards and interest areas that reflect the current work of the pupils. Knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional levels is essential. The teacher will participate in programs aimed at improving student attendance and promoting anti-vandalism initiatives within the school. Establishing and maintaining reasonable rules of conduct in the classroom and on school grounds is crucial, in accordance with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code. The teacher will maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts, encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept, and ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships. Communication with parents or guardians is a key responsibility, including counseling pupils on their academic progress, attendance, and conduct. The teacher will also participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings, utilizing pertinent information and materials provided. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating and attending class field trips and engaging in extra-curricular and after-school activities, as well as utilizing community resources effectively.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of at least one valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
  • Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with school faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated program of instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives.
  • Ability to understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
  • Skill in the application of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
