About the position

As a 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher at Gypsum Creek Middle School, you will be an integral part of a strong team, responsible for teaching four sections of regular 6th grade English Language Arts. This role includes co-teaching with a Special Education Teacher and providing targeted intervention during a dedicated WIN (What I Need) block. The position emphasizes collaboration, with opportunities for professional development and planning time to enhance instructional practices and support student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Plan units, instruction, and assessments aligned with District learner outcomes and State achievement standards.
  • Teach and support assigned students while maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students to increase achievement and personal growth.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Engage in instructional coaching to broaden teaching practices and meet diverse classroom needs.
  • Participate in grade level or content area team MTSS and PLC meetings focusing on student learning and individual growth goals.
  • Contribute to the development of a school-wide culture that promotes collaboration, professional growth, and student learning.
  • Support school-wide initiatives such as Standards-based grading practices.
  • Model best practices and provide peer support with lesson planning and design consistent with state standards and district goals.
  • Plan Standards Based Learning, including selection of content, instructional strategies, and assessments appropriate for all learners.
  • Teach to identified learning objectives, present content accurately, and monitor student progress.
  • Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning.
  • Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, and staff.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth that meets District requirements and personal goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Active teacher authorization or license issued by the State of Colorado.
  • Must be 'Highly Qualified' according to Colorado's definition under the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Endorsement in the area(s) of teaching assignment preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with co-teaching models.
  • Familiarity with Standards Based Grading practices.
  • Background in middle school education.
