About the position
The 6th Grade Spanish Dual Language Immersion Teacher is responsible for fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of students within the Dual Language Immersion Program. This role involves collaboration with school personnel, parents, and community members to achieve the program's core goals, while teaching core content areas in both English and Spanish.
Responsibilities
- Creating and implementing the Dual Language Curriculum
- Providing individualized and whole group language instruction
- Developing academic language for student success in content areas
- Evaluating and maintaining grades and attendance records for each student
- Creating and implementing lesson plans that meet Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards
- Maintaining an attractive and conducive classroom environment for language learning
- Teaching core content areas in the target language (language arts, math, social studies, science) using Indiana Academic Standards
- Integrating both English and the target language in teaching grade level content
- Collaborating with staff, administrators, and parents in developing cultural programs for students
- Working with culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse students and parents
- Performing other duties as assigned by building/district administration
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education
- Current Indiana educator's license
- Instructional experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education
- Advanced written and oral proficiency in English and Spanish
- SIOP and WIDA trained
- Proficiency in Spanish - Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening
- Ability to teach content in Spanish
