About the position

The OPS Research Assistant position is part of the Labor Market Statistics team within the Division of Workforce Services at Florida Commerce. This role is essential for collecting and analyzing employment and wage data to meet contract deliverables with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The assistant will interact with employers to gather data, ensuring accurate occupational employment and wage estimates for the state of Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze employment and wage data for occupational estimates.
  • Interact daily with employers via phone, email, and fax to gather data.
  • Deliver prepared call scripts to persuade non-responsive businesses to provide data.
  • Complete records of telephonic interactions and related employment data.
  • Describe employment and wage data requirements based on Bureau of Labor Statistics standards.
  • Recognize and overcome refusals and non-responses to data collection efforts.
  • Call non-respondents to collect data for missing units to achieve high response rates.
  • Compile, analyze, and conduct research on employment data for various statistical areas.
  • Review and correct North American Industry Classification System codes for businesses.
  • Update and maintain Occupational Employment Statistics survey database files.

Requirements

  • Ability to conduct high volume cold calling to obtain survey responses.
  • Knowledge of data collection methods and procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and establish effective working relationships.
  • Experience using Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in call center or high volume calling environments.
  • One year of experience in data collection or analysis.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Creole.
