About the position

The 8th Grade English and Language Arts Teacher at SST Schools is responsible for providing students with engaging learning activities and experiences that promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This full-time position requires effective communication, lesson planning, and classroom management skills to create a conducive learning environment. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure educational goals are met and maintain a professional relationship within the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
  • Show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in a fair manner.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and evaluate their job performance.
  • Participate in district and campus staff development and attend staff meetings.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate appropriate for level and subject area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to use computers and relevant software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in ESL/Bilingual or SPED education is preferred.
