About the position

The 8th Grade Spanish Teacher at Uplift Wisdom Middle is responsible for providing students with educational activities and experiences that foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans, maintain a positive learning environment, and support students in achieving their academic goals while upholding the school's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at school 15 minutes before carpool and be available for assigned duties or set-up.
  • Stay at school until designated time by School Director/Managing Director or as business necessitates.
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including a 2-3 week summer session.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
  • Perform necessary duties including bus, morning, lunch, and after noon duties.
  • Chaperone field lessons and field trips.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
  • Uphold the code of conduct and all school policies.
  • Maintain and support a positive professional school culture.
  • Model behavior within the code of conduct.
  • Support and follow directives of campus administrators.
  • Provide clerical, instructional, and behavioral support for scholars as needed.
  • Enroll in and complete all Texas Reading Academies Training.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to plan and align curricula that will be consistently assessed.
  • Attend all grade level meetings.
  • Work with grade level to address and resolve student issues.
  • Create rigorous and engaging lesson plans for various time frames.
  • Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive instruction.
  • Maintain a productive, safe, and focused learning environment.
  • Consistently enforce Uplift Education's core mission and values.
  • Create and provide meaningful assessments in a timely manner.
  • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for student growth and success.
  • Effectively teach the adopted curriculum and International Baccalaureate components.
  • Keep parents informed about students' progress and provide frequent feedback.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for communication with parents and students.
  • Complete network and/or state-mandated trainings by due date.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited college or university required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification or enrollment in an Uplift designated certification course.
  • Previous teaching experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • Ability to learn and use other software as necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
  • Familiarity with Texas Reading Academies.
