About the position
The 911 Emergency Communications Dispatcher plays a critical role in the Coral Springs, Parkland, and Coconut Creek Emergency Communications Center (ECC) by managing emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and emergency medical services. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of first responders and the public by effectively dispatching resources and providing essential information during emergencies. The dispatcher operates 24/7, maintaining communication with emergency personnel and coordinating responses to incidents, all while adhering to established protocols and exercising sound judgment under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls through the police/fire communications system.
- Provide essential emergency instructions to callers prior to the arrival of police or fire units.
- Dispatch police and fire vehicles/personnel to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance based on zone assignment and availability.
- Monitor radio frequencies and maintain open contact with officers to provide administrative support as needed.
- Enter critical information into the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) systems.
- Research status of vehicles and other items to determine if stolen and notify appropriate agencies.
- Track and log available and unavailable units in the field.
- Communicate and assist each caller equally without regard to age, race, sex or dialect.
- Utilize the records retrieval system to file paperwork and retrieve information as necessary.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of previous work experience in a related field.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work under stress.
- CPR Certification and other relevant certifications preferred.
