About the position

The 911 Emergency Dispatcher position at Wasatch County Sheriff's Office is a full-time role responsible for coordinating emergency service dispatch activities across various agencies. The dispatcher will handle emergency requests, relay instructions, maintain communication logs, and ensure the safety and efficiency of emergency responses. This entry-level position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to ongoing training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and coordinate all police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency requests.
  • Relay instructions to radio units and log all citizens' requests for services.
  • Monitor specialized alarm systems for banks and other institutions.
  • Dispatch patrol deputies, officers, and emergency vehicles as necessary.
  • Inform involved officers of the nature of calls and provide follow-up service.
  • Handle requests from officers for specific information relating to NCIC reports.
  • Retrieve and relay data to officers regarding criminal records and other inquiries.
  • Maintain records on the location of officers and time spent at call scenes.
  • Broadcast pick-up notices for wanted persons and stolen vehicles to officers.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and searches via NCIC/BCI and other sources.
  • Operate a computer to maintain records of communications activity and emergency requests.
  • Monitor jail cameras and control access through electronic doors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of office support or customer service experience, including computer skills for word processing and data entry.
  • Ability to pass a full background check.
  • Must possess or obtain POST and EMD dispatcher certifications within 6 months of hire.

  • Experience with emergency dispatch systems.
  • Knowledge of local geography and landmarks in Wasatch County.
  • Ability to maintain composure in crisis situations.
