About the position

The 911 Telecommunicator for the Town of Palm Beach is responsible for dispatching police, fire, and paramedic services. This role involves receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, assessing the needs of callers, and dispatching appropriate public safety resources. Telecommunicators also provide lifesaving instructions during medical emergencies and monitor alarm systems and visitor access at the police station.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls reporting emergencies or non-emergencies and determine necessary actions.
• Alert and dispatch police and/or fire-rescue units to incidents requiring assistance.
• Keep track of the status and location of on-duty police and fire-rescue units.
• Support field units by accessing databases and requesting additional agency responses as needed.
• Provide lifesaving medical instructions to callers during life-threatening emergencies when appropriate.
• Monitor station alarm systems and control visitor access using video equipment and door lock systems.
• Search, retrieve, change, and update information in various computer systems.
• Train new personnel and document their progress.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid State of Florida Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification (preferred).
• Passing score of 80% or higher on the Criticall Testing software.
• One year of experience in a dispatch center as an emergency call taker and dispatcher (preferred).
• Knowledge of the OSSI Computer Aided Dispatch system and FCIC/NCIC computer system (preferred).
• Certifications in CPR, National Academy of Emergency Dispatch, and Florida Crime Information Center/CJNET required within 6 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of communications management and technical design.
• Ability to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and shifts.
• Familiarity with FCC rules and regulations.
