About the position

The Community Support Specialist position at BJC HealthCare is a PRN role focused on providing essential support to individuals in crisis through the 988 Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) program. This role is vital in assisting clients who have reached out for help via the 988 hotline, requiring in-person assessments and support. The position operates primarily during day shifts, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with the potential for up to 20 hours of work per week, including alternating weekends. The specialist will work collaboratively with another team member to respond to crisis calls, ensuring that clients receive timely and effective support in various community settings, such as homes, parks, and public spaces. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field and will be comfortable working with clients experiencing acute crises. This role does not involve managing a caseload; instead, the focus is on immediate response to crisis situations. The Community Support Specialist will utilize a company vehicle for client visits and will have access to touchdown space at the BJC Behavioral Health office located at 8300 Eager Road in Brentwood. The position emphasizes teamwork, adaptability, and a solutions-oriented approach to client care, with a strong focus on leveraging individual strengths and resources to promote recovery and resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides community support services to complex clients, including those on care plans, using treatment plan interventions that yield positive outcomes based on individual strengths and needs.
  • Completes timely documentation of services that detail the need for the service, the intervention provided, the relationship to the treatment plan, the provider of the service, the date, the actual time and setting of the service, and the individual's response to the service.
  • Contacts individuals and/or referral sources following missed appointments to re-engage and promote recovery/resiliency efforts.
  • Supports individuals in crisis situations by providing immediate assistance and intervention.
  • Provides mentorship and job shadowing to community support colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field is required.
  • No prior experience is needed for this position, making it suitable for entry-level candidates.
  • Must possess a Class D (IL) or Class E (MO) license.
