About the position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the payroll process for 700 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. This role involves verifying payroll changes, processing semi-monthly payroll, and providing exceptional customer service to meet employee needs. The specialist will also assist in preparing payroll-related reports and handle various payroll tasks, including off-cycle checks and garnishments.

Responsibilities

  • Verify payroll changes and process semi-monthly payroll for 700 employees in Dayforce.
  • Create payroll reports and audit timecards for accuracy before initiating payroll transactions.
  • Validate/import bonuses, commissions, and other compensation.
  • Perform off-cycle and termination manual checks, as well as retroactive pay as needed.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a sense of urgency to meet employee needs.
  • Provide payroll-related support to Studio Managers.
  • Prioritize and complete multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist in preparing payroll-related reports for management.
  • Process employee garnishments in compliance with regulations.
  • Provide payroll-related data for business license renewals, census reports, and workers' compensation audits.
  • Perform Quarter-End and Year-End payroll tasks for State/Federal reporting and W-2 distribution.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of full-cycle payroll experience.
  • Proficient in HCM systems (Dayforce, Workday, ADP Lyric, UKG, or similar).
  • Knowledge of California regulatory standards and compliance requirements (taxes, meal penalties, regular rate of pay, and labor laws).
  • General ledger coding knowledge.
  • Ability to research and analyze payroll-related issues and resolve them effectively.
  • Exercise sound judgment, confidentiality, and sensitivity in handling changing needs and situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain healthy working relationships.
  • Comfortable using mobile office tools and applications.
  • Strong basic accounting and Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient with relevant PC/Microsoft computer software and hardware applications.
  • Dependable, motivated, and a strong team player with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and self-directed in resolving payroll issues.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment within established procedures to determine appropriate action.

Nice-to-haves

  • Payroll Certification or Secondary Education HR, Accounting or related field preferred but not required.
