About the position

The Custody and Resource Coordinator (CRC) plays a vital role in assisting the ERO Field Office and detention facility staff in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for detained individuals. The CRC provides essential services and support to the ICE detained population, addressing issues such as trauma, domestic violence, and medical care. This position requires a strong understanding of case management and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, ensuring that the needs of vulnerable individuals are met within the detention system.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with needs, requests, and complaints from the detained noncitizen population regarding non-officer or immigration case related issues.
  • Assist ERO officers with addressing noncitizen requests related to parent/child communication and/or child welfare involvement.
  • Facilitate on-site support of disability accommodations, including coordinating follow-up with detention facilities.
  • Assist ERO and detention facility staff in compliance with agency policies and detention standards.
  • Facilitate discussions and communicate directly with detained noncitizens on various topics, including allegations of sexual abuse and assault.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate ERO and detention facility staff for care and follow-up to prevent critical incidents.
  • Support noncitizens with specialized needs and conduct wellness checks upon request.
  • Meet with newly detained noncitizens to provide orientation to the detention facility and CRC services.
  • Assist ERO Field Offices with specialized housing units and programs for vulnerable populations.
  • Provide language interpretation for facility and ERO staff communicating with detained noncitizens.
  • Assist in removal and release planning for noncitizens with vulnerabilities, including researching resources and developing individualized plans.
  • Develop and maintain a national resource database for CRC and ERO Officer use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of related experience providing services to victims and vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of program objectives, policies, and procedures for conducting a case management program.
  • Experience working in or with victims in a confinement or custodial setting.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and oral (except for ERO HQ positions).
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate electronic work environments and use Microsoft Office programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or an equivalent advanced degree (preferred but not required).
  • Experience in a detention/correctional or residential healthcare setting (preferred, not required).
  • Critical thinking skills and cultural competency.
