About the position

The Food Safety and Quality Compliance position at Eden Foods is a full-time role focused on ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of food products. The role involves collaboration with various departments to maintain documentation and compliance with food safety standards, as well as managing relationships with suppliers and regulatory bodies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food safety and quality assurance, with a commitment to maintaining high standards in food production.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Company's Quality, Safety, & Compliance (QSC) team to maintain documentation, SOPs, and TraceGains data that comply with food quality, safety, and food defense programs.
  • Help maintain and improve relationships with suppliers, certifiers, auditors, and government agencies.
  • Assess supplier companies and personnel, ingredients, food contact surfaces, and packaging materials to minimize contamination of food and ensure food safety, defense, certification, and documentation.
  • Avoid genetically engineered items (GMOs) and their derivatives, as well as irradiated items and toxic chemicals in food products.
  • Study goods and packaging materials to evaluate applicable quality, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate addressing questions from within the company and the public about natural, organic, and non-GMO food as well as QSC issues.
  • Maintain documentation supporting regulatory requirements for imported and exported items, including organic transaction documents.
  • Provide necessary documentation for the Sales Department and Company customers, including specification sheets and certificates of analysis.
  • Assist the QSC team with customer quality and food safety issues.
  • Stay current on industry and regulatory developments affecting the Company and its food items, attending authorized training as needed.
  • Travel to supplier facilities for inspections and audits.
  • Assist in label reviews and submissions for regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Food Science, Engineering, Microbiology, Biology, or other life sciences.
  • 3 years of in-plant food industry responsibility in production QC is preferred.
  • Experience with HACCP and/or FSMA is required.
  • Knowledge of organic, GMOs, agriculture, and food manufacturing and handling is a plus.
  • Good judgment in handling proprietary and confidential information.
  • Professional level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Proficient computer skills and willingness to learn company systems.
  • Sound moral and ethical professional practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in food safety for 5 years is preferred.
