About the position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at UC Health plays a vital role in providing basic direct patient care under the supervision of clinical professionals. This position is essential for maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients and visitors while ensuring that care is culturally appropriate and tailored to the individual needs of patients. The PCA engages with patients and their families, assists with daily living activities, and communicates effectively with the healthcare team to support patient recovery and comfort.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population-appropriate communication and involves family/guardian in patient care.
  • Measures vital signs and records observations of skin integrity, intake & output, height & weight.
  • Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, skin care, and mobility support.
  • Performs specimen collection and assists with dietary needs, including meal preparation and feeding.
  • Communicates patient observations to registered nurses in a timely manner and documents treatments performed.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0-6 months of experience required; preferred 1-2 years of equivalent experience.
  • Trained and maintains proficiency in AHA CPR and patient care skills.
  • Completion of state-tested nursing aide training or equivalent hospital-specific training is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
  • Completion of a medical surgical rotation in an accredited RN program.
