About the position

The Clinical Laboratory Associate I position at Guardant Health involves supporting the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory by assisting Clinical Laboratory Scientists. The role includes performing equipment maintenance, managing sample inventory, and participating in clinical patient testing, all while ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and quality control measures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
  • Create sample batches, print labels, and label tubes and plates.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Clean racks and other laboratory supplies.
  • Manage plasma sample inventory.
  • Perform annual review of standard operating procedures.
  • Assist the Reagent Manufacturing team with preparation and aliquoting of reagents.
  • Participate in interdepartmental activities with Supply Chain and Quality.
  • Assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist during clinical patient testing.
  • Participate in projects under the supervision of a CLS or Supervisor.
  • Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to standard operating procedures.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment for research sample testing.
  • Independently identify and troubleshoot high complexity problems affecting test performance.
  • Assist with training of new laboratory personnel.
  • Assist with internal audits and inspection preparation.
  • Manage organizing and maintaining laboratory, equipment, personnel, and training documents.
  • Set-up liquid handlers and assist with automated procedures.
  • Ensure on-time calibration of laboratory equipment is scheduled and performed.
  • Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to the Supervisor or Safety Officer.
  • Work closely with CLS's and Accessioning Teams to provide support to the service department.
  • Write and revise standard operating procedures as needed.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and report to laboratory management.
  • Provide guidance for new Clinical Laboratory Associates.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field.
  • Clinical laboratory experience or equivalent high complexity and volume laboratory experience preferred.
  • Previous laboratory work experience preferred, including skills in specimen collection, patient preparation, labeling, handling, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and foster open communication.
  • Demonstrates strong practical reasoning and sound judgment.
  • Skilled in making informed and effective decisions with attention to detail.
  • Strong computing skills and knowledge of Good documentation practices.
  • Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage, quality control policies, and factors influencing test results.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to maintain open communication with internal employees and managers.
