About the position

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing medical assessments, treatment, case management, and health and wellness education to employees at the APS Health Services Clinic. This role ensures compliance with company policies, state and federal regulations, and promotes a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Completes pre-hire physical assessments using proper nursing techniques and understands ADA regulations.
  • Conducts regulatory physicals in compliance with standards.
  • Collaborates with Absence Management and HR Business Partners for accurate case management, applying FMLA regulations as needed.
  • Communicates Restricted Duty Program Guidelines to management and employees.
  • Manages emergent medical health issues and assesses fitness for duty.
  • Acts as the primary contact for employees regarding their occupational health care needs, providing timely and compassionate services.
  • Supports the development and delivery of health and wellness programs.
  • Builds alliances with key internal customers and keeps them informed of employee status.
  • Ensures the Health Services Department meets standards for medical equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of residency.
  • Five (5) years of nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of emerging practices and trends in occupational health.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse credential (COHN or COHN-S) (preferred).
  • Experience in an occupational health setting within a large organization.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience with Workers' Compensation and Short Term Disability.
  • Case management skills and knowledge of DOT, NRC, HIPAA, FMLA, and ADA regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications by CAOHC and/or NIOSH.
  • Certifications in ACLS, BLS, Pulmonary Function Testing, Occupational Hearing Conservation, AED.
