About the position

The Medical Assistant at Lindsay Health Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting medical providers and ensuring the delivery of patient care. Under the supervision of licensed medical professionals, the Medical Assistant performs various patient care activities, prepares exam rooms, assists with procedures, and manages patient flow, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares exam rooms for patient visits.
  • Stocks and orders supplies as needed.
  • Arranges for sterilization of instruments and ensures equipment is clean and in good repair before each patient visit.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and may take and record vital signs.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and assists with patient flow.
  • Assists caregivers with procedures and treatments as directed.
  • May perform, label, and record venipuncture and capillary puncture according to written procedures.
  • Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests, delivers tests, and obtains results.
  • Enters appropriate information into medical records, adhering to guidelines.
  • Ensures lab reports, X-rays, and other information are in patients' records.
  • May obtain pre-certification for procedures and assures correct coding for billing.
  • Monitors and records quality checks for lab tests and equipment.
  • Uses department computer systems for documentation and information retrieval.
  • Maintains quality control and participates in performance improvement projects.
  • Attends required meetings and in-services, providing patient instructions as needed.
  • Distributes outpatient education materials as directed and schedules patients for testing procedures.
  • Conducts patient follow-up in coordination with medical providers.
  • Answers telephone calls, refers calls, makes appointments, and provides information and referrals.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program or proof of training under a licensed physician.
  • Heartsaver AED certification required.
  • Prefer 1-2 years of experience in a medical setting.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, determined by hiring leader based on clinic needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a rural health clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
