About the position

The Material Handler Specialist at McKesson is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and security initiatives within the distribution center. This role involves conducting safety inspections, training employees on safety protocols, and maintaining safety records. The specialist will also lead safety committees and assist in various safety-related projects, contributing to a culture of safety and well-being in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with McKesson safety and security initiatives and complete requirements by due dates.
• Conduct monthly safety inspections and audits, including inspections of lanyards, harnesses, ladders, racking, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and AEDs.
• Facilitate safety trainings for new hires and current employees, covering various safety awareness topics and recertifications.
• Support safety portal and incident reporting by logging incidents, conducting investigations, and following up on preventive actions.
• Conduct powered industrial equipment training for new hires and retrain current employees as needed.
• Maintain the integrity of the powered industrial truck (PIT) processes and record accuracy on the PIT APP.
• Ensure employee adherence to safety requirements, including pre-shift inspections and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Lead the building's Safety Committee, including organizing monthly meetings and tracking action items.
• Lead the building's Spill Team, conducting team meetings and monthly mock spills.
• Assist DC trainers as needed and enforce building cleanliness.
• Complete projects and other tasks as required.

Requirements

• 3+ years of related experience in a safety or operations role.
• Strong time management skills and self-motivation.
• Professionalism and ability to react well under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel functions such as filters, sum, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP.
• Certification on powered industrial equipment including Pallet Rider, Order Picker, and Reach Truck.
• Familiarity with safety portals, maintenance connection, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and OSHA training.
• Working knowledge of warehouse processes and safety programs.
