About the position
The Mechanical Supervisor Trainee position at Norfolk Southern is designed for individuals looking to start a career in mechanical supervision within the rail industry. This role involves leading teams in the construction, repair, and maintenance of locomotives and rail cars. Trainees will undergo a six-month training program that includes both classroom instruction and hands-on supervisory training, preparing them for a promotion to Mechanical Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams of skilled laborers in the construction, repair, and maintenance of locomotives and rail cars.
- Conduct inspections and repairs at the component level on locomotives and railcars.
- Familiarize with compliance standards of Norfolk Southern, AAR, and FRA.
- Participate in process improvement efforts throughout the company.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accident prevention.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field of study preferred.
- Some knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new/proprietary programs.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with conflict resolution skills.
