About the position
The 2nd Shift Auto Folder Gluer Assistant at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) plays a crucial role in the corrugated packaging production process. This position involves assisting with machine setup, monitoring box quality, and ensuring efficient operation of machinery to meet production goals. The assistant will work closely with operators and crew members to maintain high standards of quality and safety while adhering to production schedules.
Responsibilities
- Assist with machine set-up in accordance with proper setup techniques.
- Monitor box quality, including loose liner, scoring, folding, print, and glue application, and communicate quality issues to the operator.
- Ensure finished boxes are properly stacked for unitizing and/or palletizing.
- Understand and follow instructions on factory cards and from the operator.
- Maximize equipment utilization by assisting the operator to run machinery at capacity and speed.
- Assist in training helpers with job duties on the machine.
- Complete necessary reports accurately and timely, including Production Data and Safety Data.
- Submit maintenance work orders for needed repairs.
- Proactively maintain equipment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping.
- Adhere to the production schedule and recommend optimizations.
- Report unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Work with crew members for maximum operational efficiency.
- Switch duties with other crew members as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime on short notice, including weekends.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and heavy forklift traffic.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a packaging or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in folding/gluing machine work.
- Prior experience working as a crewmember on a machine crew.
