About the position

The 2nd Shift Auto Folder Gluer Assistant at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) plays a crucial role in the corrugated packaging production process. This position involves assisting with machine setup, monitoring box quality, and ensuring efficient operation of machinery to meet production goals. The assistant will work closely with operators and crew members to maintain high standards of quality and safety while adhering to production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with machine set-up in accordance with proper setup techniques.
  • Monitor box quality, including loose liner, scoring, folding, print, and proper placement/application of glue, and communicate quality-related issues back to the operator and helpers.
  • Ensure finished boxes are properly stacked for unitizing and/or palletizing.
  • Understand and follow instructions on factory cards and from the operator.
  • Maximize equipment utilization by assisting the operator to run machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Assist with training helpers on job duties related to the machine.
  • Complete necessary reports accurately and timely, including Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Lean Enterprise, and Quality Data.
  • Submit maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
  • Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Adhere to the production schedule and make recommendations for optimizing it to meet cost, quality, and service goals.
  • Report any unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
  • Work with crew members for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Switch duties with other crew members, which may include operating, feeding, pulling, stacking, and packing as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Willingness to work overtime on short notice, including weekends.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and around machinery and heavy forklift traffic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a packaging or other manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in folding/gluing machine work.
  • Prior experience working as a crewmember on a machine crew.
