About the position

The 3rd Shift Gluer Helper at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by assisting in the preparation and operation of gluing machinery. This position requires effective communication and teamwork to ensure maximum efficiency and quality in production. The helper will be responsible for various tasks including setting up equipment, packing boxes, and maintaining safety and cleanliness in the work area.

Responsibilities

• Prepare area with equipment and/or materials according to order requirements.
• Understand and follow instructions on factory card and from the operator.
• Help locate masters when not present at the machine center.
• Work with other helpers and crew members for maximum efficiency of operation.
• Communicate quality-related issues back to the operator and/or assistant operator.
• Set up and operate bundling/squaring machine or case sealer when required.
• Catch and pack boxes, and set up master cartons.
• Move between machine centers/areas as dictated by production needs and supervisory direction.
• Input information into the system to create load tags.
• Switch duties with other crew members, including feeding, pulling, stacking, and packing as required.
• Work independently and within a team, effectively communicating with crew members.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and work rules, including safety and housekeeping.
• Be willing to work overtime on short notice, both during the week and weekends.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
• Willingness to work overtime on short notice, both during the week and weekends.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and around machinery.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math functions.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior work experience in the manufacturing/production environment.
• Prior work experience working as a crewmember on a machine crew.
• Demonstrated experience as a leader and/or team member.
• Prior experience working in Folding Gluing or similar type of work.
