About the position
The Class A Lineman position at Pike Corporation involves skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role requires the ability to work safely with energized and de-energized systems, lead crew members, and perform physically demanding tasks in various locations, including potential travel to other states based on customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead systems.
- Lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
- String overhead wire and set poles and anchors.
- Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Troubleshoot issues in primary and secondary systems.
- Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit and understand grounding procedures.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces, using proper PPE and cover-up procedures.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings and plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
- Safely perform reconductoring jobs and install/remove mechanical jumpers.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years recent field experience in electrical overhead distribution systems.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment; a Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods in various locations.
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with high voltage systems.
- Knowledge of phasing out a line using phasing sticks.
- Familiarity with load bust tools.
