About the position

The A & P Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for performing highly skilled and technical duties related to the maintenance of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) Aviation Unit aircraft. This role requires a high level of initiative and independent judgment to ensure compliance with FAA and PCSO standards, facilitating the safe and legal operation of the aviation unit.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, inspect and maintain aircraft engine, airframe and systems as required by FAA regulations, manufacturer, and PCSO requirements.
  • Coordinate with PCSO personnel and outside contractors as necessary.
  • Maintain aircraft maintenance logbooks, records, publications, catalogs and technical manuals and submit required reports to pilot and/or aviation unit commander as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, State of Florida and PCSO regulations, directives and standard operating procedures (SOP) and notify pilot and/or aviation unit commander on matters pertaining to the aviation program, aircraft maintenance and aviation safety.
  • Maintain hangar, aircraft stock, inventory and all assigned aviation related equipment and tools, ensuring all are in good working condition.
  • Attend training, symposiums and trade shows as required to maintain necessary professional ratings and currency with PCSO aircraft and equipment.
  • Work closely with the PCSO pilots to plan for and execute law enforcement missions.
  • Operate specific machinery and equipment used to fuel, move and maintain PCSO aircraft.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Valid Class E Florida Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Valid and current FAA Airframe and Power Plant License preferably with Inspection Authorization.
  • Five (5) years of verifiable aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Bell 206 Field Maintenance Course completion certificate preferred.
  • Rolls Royce M250/T63 or Allison Training Course completion certificate preferred.
  • Adequate, serviceable set of mechanical tools appropriate for the service and repair of the Bell 206 helicopter.
  • Proficiency in varied computer software systems including Microsoft Office products and ability to learn various aviation and PCSO related software programs.
