About the position

The Test Engineer/Jr. Systems Engineer position at NCDOT involves supporting the AASHTOWare Project software by creating, executing, and managing test cases for letting and compliance software. The role requires strong technical and analytical skills to design, develop, implement, and support AASHTOWare Project software for various functionalities including bidding, letting, and compliance. The position is expected to be remote for candidates outside North Carolina, and it requires availability during standard business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Create, execute, and manage test cases for AASHTOWare Project software.
  • Support the lead systems engineer in various technical tasks.
  • Work with business analysts and technical staff to deliver required functionality for AWP Preconstruction and CRL modules.
  • Participate in system administration, reporting, automated testing, configuration, and interface development.
  • Organize and manage a central repository of Test Cases and migrate existing MS Excel documentation to a centralized tool.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in communicating with developers, product analysts, customers, and managers.
  • Strong experience with automated testing tools and methods.
  • Ability to review and translate business user specifications/User Stories into Test Cases.
  • Ability to explain technical issues and processes clearly to team members and software vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own work tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience working in a SCRUM software development and support team.
  • Familiarity with data models and ability to read them and research data relationships.
  • Knowledge of MS Power Automate, SQL, C#, .NET, Python, PowerShell, or similar for task automation.
  • Strong experience using MS Azure DevOps, MS Teams, O365 applications, and MS Office Suite applications.
  • General knowledge of IT and software development best practices.
  • Experience with Windows Server/Desktop maintenance including installing applications and analyzing application logs.
  • Experience with Cloud Services like AWS or Azure.

Nice-to-haves

  • General familiarity with change management processes in an enterprise, multi-stage environment (ServiceNow experience preferred).
  • Experience with AASHTOWare Project software or Department of Transportation experience.
