About the position

The City University of New York School of Law is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Law Instructor. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality legal education and support to students, particularly in the areas of Bar Support and Community and Economic Development. The Law Instructor will be responsible for developing and implementing curriculum that meets the needs of diverse student populations, ensuring that all students receive the necessary support to succeed in their legal studies and future careers. The instructor will also engage in continuous assessment and improvement of the program, utilizing feedback from students and faculty to enhance the learning experience. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Law Instructor will collaborate with other faculty members and administrative staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This includes participating in faculty meetings, contributing to departmental initiatives, and engaging in professional development opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice and community engagement, reflecting the mission of the CUNY School of Law. The position requires a proactive approach to student engagement, including advising and mentoring students, particularly those who may face challenges in their academic journey. The Law Instructor will also be expected to contribute to the broader academic community through research, scholarship, and participation in university events and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement curriculum for Bar Support and Community and Economic Development courses.
  • Engage in continuous assessment and improvement of the program based on student and faculty feedback.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrative staff to foster an inclusive learning environment.
  • Advise and mentor students, particularly those facing academic challenges.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience in legal education or related fields.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and community engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students and faculty.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Familiarity with the Bar exam preparation process.
  • Previous teaching experience at the law school level.
