About the position

The Academic Advisor II position at the University of Louisville is designed for individuals passionate about assisting transfer students in their academic planning and goal-setting. This role focuses on supporting students from Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC) who wish to transfer to the University of Louisville, providing guidance in academic and career decision-making. The advisor will work closely with students to align their personal interests and values with their academic and career aspirations, while also promoting academic pathways and ensuring students are on track for successful transfer to selective programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to 350 ULtra students interested in UofL programs with detailed knowledge of Selective Admission's programs at UofL.
  • Build and nurture ongoing relationships with students to assist them in developing academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Coordinate and organize UL presence at JCTC freshman orientation sessions for advising and recruiting JCTC students.
  • Assist with the coordination of ULtra initiatives and serve on various campus and community committees as requested.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance advising effectiveness and knowledge.
  • Act as a liaison with UL and JCTC departments, and serve as a contact for KCTCS schools, community groups, and JCPS high school counselors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in higher education or a related field, preferably in academic advising.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Slate or CRM experience, Peoplesoft.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in admissions and enrollment.
  • Familiarity with technology related to word processing and student information systems.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first generation and low-income students.
