About the position

The Academic Advisor III position at UT Dallas is a full-time role focused on providing academic advising and supervision within the Undergraduate Education department. The advisor will manage a caseload of students, coordinate outreach efforts, and foster relationships with campus partners to enhance student support services. This role involves advising at-risk students, supervising junior advisors, and participating in the planning and delivery of academic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Advise at-risk undergraduate students regarding their current academic status.
  • Advise Academic Excellent Scholarship students not meeting scholarship requirements.
  • Advise pre-major students and support them in the change of major process.
  • Manage time and records independently.
  • Provide targeted and individualized advising addressing each student's particular needs and issues resulting in their poor academic standing.
  • Supervise advisor II positions in the SOAR Office.
  • Attend periodic outreach events and represent the SOAR Office.
  • Maintain relationships with campus partners to broaden the scope of students served.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to stay current of higher education trends and data.
  • Presentations as needed to student population.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents, or related experience.
  • Master's degree and four (4) years of related work experience.
  • Strong computer skills in electronic file management, word processing, database management, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with student information systems.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of university operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of mechanisms of student retention, student development theories, career development strategies, and recruitment strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents, or related experience.
  • Master's degree and 4 years of experience as described.
