About the position

New York University is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor to join the Liberal Studies' Academic Advising & Student Affairs team. This role is pivotal in guiding students through their academic journey within the Liberal Studies program. The Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive advice on academic programs, ensuring students receive practical information regarding curriculum requirements and degree progress. This includes assisting students with course selection and registration processes, helping them navigate institutional policies and procedures, and facilitating access to university resources and support services through appropriate referrals. The advisor will also be responsible for processing advanced standing credits and recommending special exceptions when necessary. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Academic Advisor will work with a special population of students, serve as a liaison with specific functional areas, and participate in relevant committees. The role also involves engagement in high-priority events for Advising & Student Affairs, such as admissions open houses and parents' days, which are crucial for fostering community and support within the university. The ideal candidate will be proactive in helping students make informed decisions about their academic and professional goals, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to succeed in their studies and future careers.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in student advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to advise and provide appropriate solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of standard office software (Google Apps, Microsoft, etc).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience advising diverse undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment.
  • Knowledge of career development resources and internship program administration.
  • Familiarity with assessment methods.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of USD $70,000.00 to USD $75,000.00 based on experience and qualifications.
