Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking an Academic Advisor/Recruiter. This position is primarily responsible for the recruitment of traditional and non-traditional (adult learners) students along with assisting them with the transition from secondary to post-secondary education at BSCTC, with a special emphasis on non-traditional students. The role involves meeting the objectives of the college in serving the region's unique demographic mix, including under-represented minority and low-income populations. The advisor/recruiter will utilize customer relationship management software to document recruitment and outreach efforts effectively. The Academic Advisor/Recruiter will prepare and deliver presentations on BSCTC programs, enrollment processes, financial aid and scholarships, college transition opportunities, articulation of credit, BSCTC assessments, and college life to varied audiences, including high school students, parents, and adults. This will be accomplished through school visits, community center visits, recovery and reentry programs, local college fairs, and open houses. Additionally, the advisor will assist with student orientation activities and represent the college at festivals and community events. Extensive travel within a five-county area is required, covering 14 high schools, 2 alternative schools, 2 private schools, 5 technical high schools, 1 state correctional facility, and numerous community centers and other organizations. The advisor will ensure quality institutional relationship formation through excellent written communications with prospective and incoming students via various modalities, including pre and post high school visit letters, welcome letters, and thank you letters to secondary and other partners. Regular and systematic use of customer relationship management software will be essential to identify prospects, follow up on them, note conversions to applicants, and ensure a smooth transition to career assessment, enrollment, and handoff to appropriate academic advisors.
