The City College of New York is seeking an Academic Advisor for the Student Academic Success HUB. This position is crucial in supporting the academic success of all students, particularly those who have not yet declared a major. The Academic Advisor will play a key role in advising undeclared students and assisting them in navigating the prerequisites necessary for admission into the college's professional schools. The advisor will assess students' needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to help implement effective academic plans that lead to degree attainment. In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Advisor will provide advisement to incoming first-year, transfer, and sophomore students regarding their academic plans, course selections, and academic standards. The advisor will also support retention efforts for first-year and sophomore students through personalized advisement, helping them identify areas of interest, select majors, and create degree maps. The role involves creating and implementing targeted communication strategies to support specific programs and student populations, including maintaining social media accounts. The advisor will utilize various advising technologies such as DegreeWorks, CUNYfirst, Schedule Builder, Enotes, and Navigate to provide academic advisement and monitor students' academic progress toward degree completion. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and campus support services is essential to address the academic needs of City College students. Additionally, the advisor will assist in facilitating seminars and workshops aimed at improving student engagement, satisfaction, major exploration, career exploration, and academic preparedness. They will also prepare enrollment, retention, and assessment reports for specific programs and student populations, administer student satisfaction surveys, and perform clerical and administrative duties as needed. Participation in staff development programs, including conferences and workshops, is expected, along with occasional evening and weekend work as required.
