About the position

The Academic and Career Success Coach is a vital role at Florida Memorial University, dedicated to empowering students in their academic and career pursuits. This position involves providing personalized guidance, mentorship, and resources to help students navigate their educational journey and transition into their chosen careers. The Coach will also organize workshops and foster collaboration among faculty, student organizations, and the broader campus community to enhance student engagement and success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized academic coaching to students, developing academic plans and strategies for success.
  • Assist students in improving study skills, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Offer career guidance, helping students explore options and develop career goals.
  • Provide resources for resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Assist students in building professional networks and connecting with industry professionals.
  • Empower students to take ownership of their academic and career development.
  • Facilitate discussions that promote self-reflection and decision-making skills.
  • Design and conduct workshops on academic success strategies and career exploration.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to coordinate and promote workshops and events.
  • Stay updated on educational and industry trends to inform advising practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress.
  • Collaborate with other student support services to enhance student success.
  • Monitor at-risk students and provide timely referrals for support services.
  • Teach FMU 101 - University 101 as assigned.
  • Contribute to departmental committees and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience in academic advising, career counseling, or student support services.
  • Familiarity with data management systems and student information systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Exceptional customer service and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of academic planning and career exploration strategies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with educational technology and resources for academic and career development.
  • Presentation and public speaking skills.
