About the position
The Academic Associate (English) position at CT State Housatonic is a full-time, tenure-track role responsible for supporting faculty and students in academic labs. This role involves independent scheduling, setup, maintenance of labs, and providing tutorial assistance to enhance student learning experiences. The position is integral to fostering an effective instructional environment for a diverse student population in a community college setting.
Responsibilities
- Schedule, set up, maintain, and operate assigned academic labs.
- Provide tutorial assistance to students in the use of lab equipment and lab assignments.
- Attend and participate in convocation and commencement ceremonies.
- Serve on assigned committees and task forces.
- Attend and participate in committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may include evening or weekend events.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in English or a closely allied field with one or more years of related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of principles and concepts of the assigned academic discipline.
- Understanding of lab equipment operation, setup, and safety procedures.
- Skill in tutoring and basic instruction in the assigned academic discipline.
- Strong information technology literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
- Ability to work effectively with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Two or more years of experience working in a developmental English environment.
- Two or more years of experience in an online learning environment.
- Bilingual.
