About the position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking an academic biostatistician to support its research initiatives. This role involves leading statistical efforts on various health services and clinical research projects, contributing to study design, data management, and analysis, while also generating essential documentation for grant applications. The position is suitable for candidates who have advanced beyond the Research Fellow/Trainee stage and are ready to operate as independent statisticians.

Responsibilities

• Develop statistical solutions to optimally support all phases of research projects.
• Function as a study Lead Statistician, accountable for study level deliverables.
• Perform trial statistician responsibilities, including attendance of study team meetings, review of protocols/amendments, conducting exploratory data analyses, and performing just-in-time analyses.
• Innovate statistical approaches to study design, analysis, and data exploration methodologies.
• Serve as a general clinical development and statistical resource.
• Supervise, orient, and/or train staff, potentially having one direct report.
• Retrieve, query, manipulate, and manage large claims and hospital databases.
• Provide statistical education to clinical investigators including faculties, fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Provide statistical consulting services to investigators from Harvard Medical School and affiliated hospitals, if needed.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Biostatistics required; Doctoral degree in Biostatistics or related field preferred.
• 5-8 years related work experience in health services research.
• Knowledge of epidemiology, outcomes research, survey design, evidence-based medicine, and health services research.
• Experience working with large claims databases, longitudinal datasets, and data repositories.
• Experienced and knowledgeable with SAS, STATA, SPSS or alternative statistical software as well as SQL programming language.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access and other web-based applications.
• Experience designing data collection instruments and study databases via REDCap.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
