The role of an Academic Counselor involves guiding students through their educational journey, helping them set and achieve academic and career goals. Academic Counselors provide essential support in course selection, career advice, and personal counseling, ensuring students navigate their academic paths successfully. They play a crucial role in enhancing student satisfaction and retention by offering tailored advice and resources.
Responsibilities
- Assist students in determining their educational and career goals.
- Provide guidance on course selection to meet graduation requirements.
- Track student progress and address any challenges they encounter.
- Help students develop necessary social and academic skills for success in college and beyond.
- Act as a liaison between students and faculty to mediate disputes affecting academic performance.
- Offer personal counseling and referrals for additional support as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- Master's degree in counseling is preferred.
- Experience in the education field, preferably in a counseling role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
