About the position
The TRIO Upward Bound Academic Counselor is a grant-funded position at Wabash Valley College responsible for recruiting, advising, and counseling program participants throughout the academic year and summer. The role involves maintaining communication with students, parents, and teachers to support students' academic and personal development, as well as planning educational trips and managing program documentation.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and assess program participants.
- Advise and counsel students on academic and personal development.
- Maintain contact with teachers and parents/guardians regarding students' progress.
- Assist in the development of program forms and handbooks.
- Plan and chaperone educational trips.
- Perform data entry and maintain program records.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Commitment to supporting economically disadvantaged and first-generation youth.
- Ability to understand and accept diverse lifestyles.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively within the target area.
